What is Trivergence?
The use of various electronic devices is increasing in the modern world. Every home has devices such as telephones, modem, computer, printer, thermostat, and refrigerator and others. These devices have their own functionalities. It is not possible to invent a new device which performs all these functions but there are ways to connect these devices. Ubiquitous network connectivity has found ways to connect these devices. The devices can be interlinked, and they can be controlled from outside. These devices cannot be made to communicate with each other, but a centralized control system can be used to control various devices. This is the concept behind trivergence.
What is Trivergence?
Trivergence is an architecture which organizes several devices and networks. The latest networking technology can connect many different devices. Trivergence believes that the control of these connected devices can be found on the network apart from the device. This makes the stand alone devices to interact with each other using the available components. With a new control device, you can expect to control all your home appliances when you are away from your home. The users are frustrated with several devices for several purposes and they love centralized control minimizing their efforts. Many companies are working on trivergence concept to bring about a super device which can control many devices.
Examples of trivergence
Trivergence concept has been applied differently in several small devices. For instance, consider the latest model cell phone which has the capability to play music and video like a media player, take pictures like a camera, store messages and pictures like a computer and enable web browsing like internet browser. With a single cell phone, you can avoid many devices because you have all the features. The latest model cell phone is an excellent innovation, but it is not the ultimate device.
Apple uses buttons on iPod to buy and download music without using a computer connected to web. You can access a playlist in your computer if your computer and iPod are connected. TiVo allows the viewers to select shows from a web browser and view those programs in their television. The buttons on TiVo box enable a user to do this. The VoIP communication allows you to make calls to phones using web interface.
All these developments require buttons to be placed on the device. To use the networking advantage, the user has to use the buttons on these devices.
Future of trivergence
Trivergence architecture foresees to operate multiple devices without button pushing. The soft panels introduced by Accenture can be used in cars to control devices. The customers wanted super soft panels which can operate automatically controlling an array of devices. They wanted their car GPS to turn on the thermostat when they are close to their home. Such expectations are logical and with the evolving trivergence concept, these dreams will become true one day. Many new trivergence devices with capabilities to control many old and new devices will be available in the future. In the upcoming years, customers can control all their devices using a super soft panel as many companies are seriously working on trivergence.
