I have moved to the United States from the South Pacific islands 18 years ago, and it wasn't until the last 3 or 4 years that I begin making regular telephone calls to my family back home. Thank goodness for the availability of inexpensive calling cards online. You're so correct when u said "Don’t let distance get between you and your loved one". Here's why ... during those years before I started purchasing phone cards online, my mother (I'm talking about the woman who gave birth to me, whom I love dearly) was stranded for 6 weeks at another location across the islands and couldn't get home. She simply didn't have any money, and no one could help her. She was visiting my sister who wasn't nice to her, and kicked her out of the house. My mother experienced hunger, loneliness, compromised health, serious risks of being attacked, and so forth. She somehow made it home with the help of a cousin of mine who gave her just enough money to pay her way home. She said that she arrived home feeling like a woman with no children who love and care about her. When she relayed that experience to me two years after it happened, Ohhhhh, you can imagine how I felt! I WAS ASHAMED! I felt so low that I didn't know how to ask her to forgive me for not staying in touch with her. I promised her it would never happen again. Today, she carries a cellphone with her wherever she goes on the islands. I can reach her anytime, and she can contact me anytime, especially when she needs me right away.
