Video Conferencing and Telecommunication

Video conferencing uses telecommunication technologies of audio-visual means to bring people of different places and locations together for a meeting group discussion. It has also been called “visual collaboration” because although you are physically distant from each other, you can actually see each other in the screens of your television or other technological devices such as your computer or even your mobile phone. Video conference is totally different from videophone because videophone is designed for a one-on-one conversation between two individuals while videoconferencing tends to bring together a group for a meeting. Videoconferencing adds another possible alternative, and can be considered when a live conversation is needed, visual information is an important component of the conversation, the parties of the conversation can’t physically come to the same location or the expense or time of travel is a consideration to the attending individual or group.

We have several significance regarding the use of Video Conferencing, this includes:

First is that it is time-saving since instead of traveling for a couple of hours or several days just to attend a meeting, you can just have it in an instant anytime and anywhere. It will also save you time to relax or have some quality time together with your friends or family.

Secondly, it saves effort and because with videoconferencing you get to skip long trips, you then will not be straining yourself further thus avoiding stress and exhaustion. Now, you have more energy to concentrate on work better and the relaxing and worry-free meeting process.

Third, it provides privacy if you want your discussions and other important matters and files to be top secret and to be exclusive for authorized people only. It also provides confidentiality only within the people involved having the general meeting or assembly so as for the people not to be exposed and revealed.

Fourth, it became useful to the general public. Video conference system-based technological equipments such as the webcam, personal computer system; software compression and broadband Internet connectivity have become affordable and very reasonable at cost for the general public. Also, the hardware used for this technology has continued to improve in quality, and prices have lowered significantly. Videoconferencing became accessible to many because of the availability of freeware such as chat programs.

Lastly, it became useful also in the educational arena wherein videoconferencing has also become a hit. It gives the students the chance to learn by involving themselves in a 2-way communication platform. Also, the teachers, instructors, professors and lecturers from around the globe can teach students from different places also without physical contact through general telecom in the form of video conference. Through video conferencing, the students now can learn more, explore, communicate, analyze and impart knowledge with each another. Virtual field trips are also provided to children especially those who live in the far flung areas or those who belong to the lower class who cannot afford to go to educational trips that require a certain amount of money.

There are more vital uses of video conference in our telecommunications today and it continues to improve itself as technology advances and as time goes on.
