TiVo Inc., a leading provider of digital video recorders, recently signed a deal allowing its customers to download Walt Disney Co. movies directly on their home television sets. TiVo subscribers will soon be able to “rent” Disney movies for a period of 24 hours, during which time the films will be stored on their broadband-connected DVR hard drives. This is TiVo’s latest move to offer more on-demand content, in an effort to better compete with cable and satellite companies that have launched their own DVR services in recent years.
