Here’s why … during those years before I started purchasing phone cards online, my mother (I’m talking about the woman who gave birth to me, whom I love dearly) was stranded for 6 weeks at another location across the islands and couldn’t get home. She simply didn’t have any money, and no one could help her. She was visiting my sister who wasn’t nice to her, and kicked her out of the house. My mother experienced hunger, loneliness, compromised health, serious risks of being attacked, and so forth. She somehow made it home with the help of a cousin of mine who gave her just enough money to pay her way home. She said that she arrived home feeling like a woman with no children who love and care about her.
