Phones have become an essential component for your normal day-to-day life. Most
people use phones without worrying about the cost incurred. Later, they are shocked when they see their phone bills. Do you know that you can easily save a few dollars every month with your phone bills? The following tips help you save money with most of the popular providers.
- Use the same provider used by most of your friends and family. Many providers offer free in-network calls and unlimited calls during night times within the same network. This way, you can call your friends and family for free. Many of your friends may use different providers, but try to find a small group of most called persons to choose a suitable provider for you.
- Toll free calls are free only when you call those numbers from your landlines. You have to pay even a higher price for making calls to toll free numbers from your cell phones.
- Cut down the call out and call waiting service. Most of the providers provide call out and call waiting service at an additional cost. These services are more often not used by many people. If you don’t like any disturbance when you are talking to another person, then there is no need for the call out and call waiting services.
- Cut down all types of extra and entertainment services. Every type of service including ringtone downloads, games, web surfing, emails and others cost you money. Don’t use any service if you don’t need it desperately.
- Avoid long distance calling using your cell phones. Cell phone providers charge heavily for long distance calls. You should go for calling cards to make long distance calls.
- Choose bundled services effectively. Cell phone providers provide a number of services in different packages. Bundling services may offer you pretty good deals if the services are needed for you. If you don’t need most of the services in the bundle, then simply buy the service you want.

- Go for unlimited text messaging plans. Every text message may cost you a few cents, but if you communicate frequently with your friends using text messaging, you have to go for provider plans with unlimited text messaging patterns.
- Choose a plan that is suitable for you. Your plan should not be too small or too big. You should be paying only for what you use. Moreover, choosing a plan matching your calling patterns will definitely save you money every month.
- Take advantage of referral plans offered by phone providers. You can refer your friends to switch to your provider and earn cash that can be used to save your phone bills. The referral program earns you cash when your referrals earn cash.
- Phone service providers face tough competition and to gain more customers, they offer better deals from time to time. Keep in touch with your provider to find a deal that best suits you. As providers won’t like to lose customers, you can get the deal you want.

One of the best ways to save money on cell phones is to investigate prepaid options. Many prepaid, or pay-as-you-go, packages are cheaper per month than any contract out there. Some unlimited prepaid plans are also cheaper than the contract-based unlimited plans. Just go look at the offers available and you’ll see.
The added benefit of prepaid is that there are no hidden charges or lengthy contracts to worry about. You can also change your spending on a month-to-month basis.
I currently use NET10 for my needs and save roughly $20 every month compared to what I used to pay on contract.

I have recently switched over to VoIP and took my phone bill down in half. I also have free calls to anywhere in the US/Canada and all the features like call waiting are free. Best move I have made in a while. Now if I could figure out how to do the same thing for my cable TV bill I would be ecstatic.

I would also watch out for plans with hidden fees and charges. Find a plan that has a base rate for the amount of minutes/text’s you plan to use. I’ve found the unlimited plan is the best way to avoid these extra charges.
